We Moved. Also Negative Charge is Streaming everywhere!

The new shop location is at Unit 108 - just three doors down from where we were.

The paragraph below was written last week when we were moving the shop. I’ve decided to leave it because it explains much of what was going on the last little bit and though it’s not necessarily current as it reads, it gives you a bit of understanding as to what the hell is up personally if you care. The main reason for this post/email is to let everyone know that the Negative Charge LP is up and streaming everywhere. You can check it out on Bandcamp, Youtube and anywhere else you’re looking like fuckin’ Deezer. To my ears, it is the best Hardcore record I’ve heard this year. The Alienator LP which will be everyone’s favourite is a crucial record but I’m biased and I’m also here to sell records so buy this from me, and next week when I get a grip of Alienator LP’s in, you should buy that too. I’ll spout more off about the Negative Charge LP below as well. It’s already almost half sold out and that’s not counting wholesale. Do the wise thing. It’s wise. Other things in the shop of note that are new and stinking the place up or enroute:

A tonne of MISSISSIPPI RECORDS stock!
Haggus - Destination Extinction LP
Totalitar - Sin Egen Motståndare (New Special edition) LP
Alienator - Meat Locker LP
Pyrex - Slugman 7”
7” Reissues including Dead Wretched, Mayhem, Oppressed and some classic 70’s stuff like Social Security and Clive Culbertson
New 7”s from The Hell and Axon - both excellent contemporary Hardcore Punk rockets.

The website mailorder is being updated regularly but if something shows out of stock and you’d like to order it, please reach out as there is a chance there is a copy in the shop bins and not in the Online reserves,

Moving day for Neon Taste is TODAY so we are closed. We spent nearly a year in this spot which was an old hairdressing space and it has served it’s purpose just fine but we’ve decided to double-down and double the square footage in a spot just down the hall from our current location. I want to give a massive thank you to Calgary for being excited about this venture. I’m still not sure if it works to run a space like this but as I’ve said many times before - I don’t know how to do anything else and I’m committed to the bit if it kills me. Hopefully the bit becomes a major role That would be nice.

On a personal note, it’s been Sled Island week in Calgary and I’ve managed to see a couple of cool bands and miss a bunch more. I did manage to get to see The Mummies twice in a spot that’s the size of a large basement and they were glorious. Messy, wild, cantankerous, Rock ‘n’ Roll that is impossible not to love. It truly is the best music on earth. Especially when it’s cranked to 11, raw as hell and primitive. Any doubts about seeing a band that started in ‘88 should be put firmly to bed. In a surprise move, Lafff Box alumni were in town with a new group called Liiek playing a bit of Berlin Post-Punk brilliance. Coupling some familiar sounds from the rich soil that made Germany a hot spot for this sound and adding a bit of UK Peacepunk and you’ve got a timeless, winning combination. We were lucky enough to get a small grip of 7”s and cassettes after their gig that are available in the shop now (if your interest is peaked - I can mail-order you one of the 7”s or the tape, just reach out). If you’re a fan of Diat, The Mob, Gang of Four - I’d recommend this. If you think you’re getting the manic garage punk that Lafff Box was churning out - look elsewhere. Along that note, sadly Lafff Box has broken up. The gang that makes Turbos Discos label and their millions of bands have axed that one but many of the other projects are still active. It’s sad but nothing lasts forever. We’ll be blowing out our Lafff Box LP’s to make up some space for future records asap.

Speaking of future records - NEGATIVE CHARGE. I am fucking PUMPED on this LP. It’s one of my favourite Hardcore records of the last little while the fact I get to put it out is so sweet. The proud nectar of success. It’s still selling

Toronto and area can rejoice, you’ve probably already heard by now but Bootlicker will be out playing a total barnburner of a gig with bands as varied and great as Home Front, Slash Need, Siyakahl, The Hell, Faze and Hogtied. Some of these bands I’ve been wanting to see for ages. Some, like Slash Need we just played a gig with and they were a car-crash of late 80’s early 90’s industrial complete with oversexed dancers and lipstick smudged teeth. They look like an orgy. They sound like Fucking. I don’t think you’re a virgin anymore if you see them play. See ya there.

That wraps us up until next week when I hope to have a couple more things to announce. If you’re in Toronto next week, come say hi at the gig. If you’re there at the end of the month, come say hi at one of the Chats/Chain Whip gigs.
Enjoy yourself before someone enjoys you.
